The company was founded in the late Edo period (1854-60) as a navy blue shop on the present site and later started a brewing business. The red-brick warehouse built in the Taisho era (1922) has been designated a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. The Takahashi Sake Brewery's sake is not overly dry, but has a full, gentle flavour without being 'light and dry', which is a characteristic of Niigata sake.
Ancient name for the region of Echigo Nagaoka. In the past, people called Nagaoka 'Choryo'. Choryo Hyakunenju Normal Sake is a local favourite. It is a mellow sake with a different flavour from Niigata light dry sake.
