Niigata sake has a strong image of being 'light and dry', but the Takeda Brewery has not produced light and dry sake for a long time.
This is to preserve the taste of sake that has been brewed for generations. Oogata-ku, Joetsu City, where the Takeda Brewery is located, is on a sand dune, close to the coastline. Sake brewed with water that has been filtered through these dunes over many, many years has a sweet aroma of rice and a full-bodied flavour, which are the elements that make Takeda Sake Brewery what it is.
Katafune Honjozo has won first prize in its category three times at the International Wine Challenge (IWC). It is no exaggeration to say that it is the world's most delicious special honjozo.
It has a deep flavour, but is light and crisp on the throat. When slightly warmed, the soft sweetness is pleasant and makes you want to drink another sip or two. The brewery recommends drinking it at room temperature or lukewarm.
