The Hakuryu Brewery is a sake brewery with a history dating back to 1839, when it was established as a branch of a shipping wholesaler trading with Hokkaido in Niigata, a port town bustling with Kitamae ships. The name 'Hakuryu Shuzo' (White Dragon Brewery) is derived from the character for 'dragon', which represents the god of the sea, from the family's involvement in the ship business.
The only rice used in the brewing of this product is Gohyakumangoku, which is grown under contract with local farmers under the Agano City JA Kitagama Minami. The sake has a refreshing taste and an elegant aromatic richness comparable to that of a daiginjo.
