Sasashuku Sake Brewery is a sake brewery that has been operating for 120 years in the Nishikan area in the far west of Niigata City. The brewery has been steadily working on the creation of a new sake culture while producing traditional regional lifestyle sake. A panda mascot character called Sasa Panda-kun welcomes visitors to the brewery. Tours of the brewery facilities are available by appointment. The neighbourhood of the Sasashuku Brewery is home to more than 10 breweries and wineries, as well as a lake where swans fly and hot springs, making it a popular weekend destination for Niigata citizens. During the summer months, the sunflower fields at Kamigamigata Park (a 10-minute walk from Sasashuku) and the watermelons and melons harvested in the area are famous.
Sasajima Junmai Ginjo-Unfiltered Sake is an aromatic sake with the aroma of yeast brought to the fore through long-term fermentation at low temperatures. After bottling without filtration, it is matured for several years in the brewery's low-temperature cellar before being shipped. This dry junmai ginjo sake has a perfect match of ginjo and matured aromas.
